Terms of Use

McKay Bay Lodge is located on the West Side of the Bamfield Inlet, restricting direct vehicular access; regardless, the lodge is easily accessible. Here are some ways to arrive here:

BY CAR/TRUCK:

From Vancouver drive North to the Ferry at Horseshoe Bay (30 minutes North of Vancouver) destined for Nanaimo or take the Tsawwassen Ferry (30 minutes South of Vancouver) destined to Duke Point. Ferry Times are typically 1.5 hrs from Horseshoe Bay or 2 hrs from Tsawwassen. 

From Nanaimo travel north on the Island Highway to Port Alberni (approx. 1 hr) then follow the road signs to Bamfield, on a 90 km well maintained logging road (approx. 1 hr 45 min). Free street parking is available in Bamfield.

If Travelling from Swartz Bay: travel South to Victoria (20 min.), take the Island Hwy North to Duncan (1 hr) travel East to Lake Cowichan, following road signs to Bamfield a 2 hr 15 min drive on a 120 km logging road – 4 hr total just follow the marked road signs. Free street parking is available in Bamfield.

BY BOAT

Alternatively travel by water from Port Alberni via the MV Francis Barkley: Scheduling can be found and bookings can be made at the MV FRANCIS BARKLEY WEBSITE.

MV Francis Barkley departs Port Alberni at 8 a.m. Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays weekly throughout the year and additionally on Sundays during July and August. This is a wonderful, relaxing trip down the Alberni Canal and should be experienced. You will then arrive at the Bamfield East Government dock at around 1:30 p.m. We then pick you up at the East Government dock and transport you to the lodge, about a 2 minute boat ride across the harbour.

YOUR OWN BOAT:

You can launch your boat at Clutesi Haven Marina located in Port Alberni, it is about a 1 hr boat ride up the Alberni Inlet. Once in Bamfield, we have plenty of moorage space and a gas dock to refuel and accommodate your boat during your visit.

 

BY BUS (THE WEST COAST TRAIL BUS) 

The WEST COAST TRAIL EXPRESS (250-477-8700) leaves VICTORIA (and also picks up in Naniamo) daily starting in May until September and goes back to Victoria the same day. www.trailbus.com

 

BY SEA PLANE:

As you can see we have many airlines serving our community. And with our own docks, they land right at our door. A short walk up from the docks to the lodge where you will find your room and comfortable bed, or just drop the bags and lets go fishing.
